# How do I add cards to Apple Wallet?
Source: https://support.trybarcodes.com/docs/en/apple-wallet/add-cards-apple-wallet
Learn how to add your cards to Apple Wallet
Note: Apple Wallet is not available on the iPad, so adding cards or managing Apple Wallet needs to be done from your iPhone
You can add any card to Apple Wallet by going in to Edit the card, scrolling down, and toggling on Sync with Apple Wallet.
This will open the configuration settings for this card. Here you can configure a number of options of what to display, what type of card to use, and how to group the cards. The pass types have different properties and trade-offs, which you can read about [here](/docs/en/apple-wallet/apple-wallet-pass). The Store card is suitable for most barcodes and loyalty or reward cards!
Once configured, you can always go back into the Edit screen for the card, and change any settings or configuration!
**Note:**
Apple Wallet configuration is local to your device, and not synced. This is to allow people sharing cards to choose to have the card in their Apple Wallet or not individually, as well as any configuration options!
# Add location awareness to Apple Wallet passes
Source: https://support.trybarcodes.com/docs/en/apple-wallet/add-location-awareness-apple-wallet
Add locations so that your device can suggest the Apple Wallet pass when nearby!
## How can I get my Apple Wallet passes to show on my Lock Screen when nearby?
You can edit a card to add up to 10 relevant locations to the Apple Wallet pass, and the distance to display at up to the maximum allowed by Apple Wallet.
Then when you are nearby the pass will conveniently show up on your Lock Screen!
1. Open a card and tap Edit
2. Scroll down and tap Configure Apple Wallet
3. Scroll down to Locations and tap to add or edit
4. Search for a location and set the distance you want the card to be relevant
Once set up, your device should show your card on your Lock Screen when you’re within distance of any of your selected locations!
Barcodes never needs access to your location information, this is all handled by Apple Wallet after configuration.

Details on the differences between Apple Wallet pass types
## Apple Wallet pass types
| Pass type | Relevant date | Relevant locations | Apple Watch support | Grouping |
| ----------------------------------- | ------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------- | -------- |
| Generic | Yes | Max 10 locations, small activation radius(maximum approx. 100m / 328ft) | Aztec, PDF417 or QR | Grouped |
| Event ticket | Yes | Max 10 locations, large activation radius(maximum approx. 1000m / 3280 ft) | Aztec, PDF417 or QR | |
| *experimental* support for others\* | Separate | | | |
| Boarding pass | Yes | Max 10 locations, large activation radius(maximum approx. 1000m / 3280 ft) | Aztec, PDF417 or QR | Separate |
| Store card | No | Max 10 locations, small activation radius(maximum approx. 100m / 328ft) | Aztec, PDF417 or QR | |
| *experimental* support for others\* | Grouped | | | |
| Coupon | No | Max 10 locations, small activation radius(maximum approx. 100m / 328ft) | Aztec, PDF417 or QR | |
| *experimental* support for others\* | Grouped | | | |
* experimental support involves trying to write a strip image containing the barcode, which is then shown instead
**Apple Watch support on Apple Wallet**
Apple Watch supports Aztec, PDF417 or QR natively. If your barcode is a different type and you use a compatible card type, then an image of the
barcode is added to the card. This is a workaround, and imperfect. Barcodes is also available for Apple Watch and is recommended instead of Apple Wallet passes for this instance.
**Grouping**
If you select event or boarding type for your cards, they will not be grouped and appear below each other in Apple Wallet. If you use a different type of card, then they will be grouped next to each other. The event and boarding card types have a different appearance, so there are tradeoffs if you don't want the cards grouped together.
**Apple Wallet Notes**
These limitations mentioned above all arise from Apple's implementation and design of Apple Wallet, and Barcodes can't change them.
**Relevant date and locations**
If you supply relevant locations, your iPhone can use this to show the passes when you are nearby. The distance is at most the distance shown for the type, but can be reduced in the app for closer distances.
It is not possible to extend it further. If a card type supports a relevant date and both a date and a location are provided, the card will only show up when the date *and* the location are a match.

# One-time Apple Wallet pass migration
Source: https://support.trybarcodes.com/docs/en/apple-wallet/wallet-pass-one-time-migration
A one-time update that refreshes your Apple Wallet passes so they keep working with the latest Wallet features
## What this update is
This is a one-time update that refreshes your existing Apple Wallet passes. Running it once swaps your current passes for updated versions, so they keep working smoothly and stay manageable from the app.
You'll only be asked to confirm once — it only takes a moment — and your cards and saved settings in Barcodes stay exactly as they are.
## When you'll see it
From version **2.6.4**, Barcodes offers this update the first time you open the app after updating. You'll only see it if you have Apple Wallet passes that may need refreshing — if you haven't added any Apple Wallet passes previously, nothing changes and you won't be prompted.
## Updating your passes
1. When prompted, review the cards listed. Cards already in your Wallet appear under **Active** and are preselected; cards you've used with Wallet before appear under **Previous** and are left unselected.
2. Select or deselect any cards to choose what's included.
3. Tap **Update Wallet Passes**.
4. Apple Wallet will ask you to confirm. This is a single confirmation that covers all of the selected passes at once.
On the Apple Wallet confirmation screen you'll see **twice as many passes** as the number of cards you selected — for example, the four cards above add up to eight passes. That's expected: each card's updated pass is added alongside its older pass, which is being moved to **Expired** at the same time.
## What happens to your older passes
After the update, your refreshed passes appear in your main Wallet view, ready to use.
Your older passes aren't removed automatically — Barcodes can't delete your older passes, so instead of disappearing they move to Apple Wallet's **Expired** section. You can leave them there or remove them yourself, and they won't affect your new, active passes.
## Removing expired passes (optional)
Expired passes are harmless and you can simply ignore them. If you'd prefer to tidy them up:
**Find your expired passes**
1. Open the **Wallet** app on your iPhone.
2. Tap the **•••** menu in the top corner and tap **Expired** (on older versions of iOS, scroll to the bottom and tap **Expired Passes** instead).
**Remove a single pass**
1. Tap the expired pass you want to remove.
2. Tap the **trash** icon, then confirm **Delete Pass**.
**Remove several at once**
On the latest version of iOS you can clear multiple expired passes together:
1. In the Expired list, tap **Edit**.
2. Select the passes you want to remove.
3. Tap the **trash** icon, then confirm **Delete \[N] Passes**.
Removing expired passes won't affect your new, active passes.
## Updating later, or skipping
We recommend updating your passes when you're prompted. Until you do, your older passes stay on the previous version — they keep working for now, but editing a card can create a **new, separate** pass instead of updating the existing one, which may leave you with stranded passes in Apple Wallet.
If you're not ready right away, you have options:
* **Update later** — tap the **✕** to close the prompt. Barcodes will offer it again the next time you open the app, and you can re-open it any time from **Settings → Apple Wallet → Update remaining Wallet passes**.
* **Skip it** — tap **Skip this Wallet update** if you'd rather not be asked again. Skipped cards won't reappear in the prompt or under **Update remaining Wallet passes** — if you change your mind, open the card and add its Wallet pass again.
* **Update some now** — if you update only some of the cards, the rest are treated as skipped for this one-time update. You can re-add those manually from each card later.
Whichever you choose, your saved Wallet setup (groups, locations and dates) is kept.

# How is location access used?
Source: https://support.trybarcodes.com/docs/en/faqs/how-is-location
Information on how location access is used for a more accurate search, but is never shared or stored.
The map search functionality to add location awareness to Apple Wallet can be made more accurate by allowing location access.
If Location Access is allowed, this means that your location can be passed to Apple’s search services powering the location lookup, and it can show you more relevant results, as well as your location on the map. Without this, the functionality still works, but the search may be less accurate as Apple guesses where you are, and it typically is only country accurate, and may show results from the wrong city or even state if not specified in the search.
This location access is **only** used for this purpose. Your location is not tracked, shared or stored, and never leaves your device.
You can opt out of this feature entirely if you’d prefer not to even see the toggle, in Advanced > Location Access.

# Can my Unlimited upgrade be shared with my family using Family Sharing?
Source: https://support.trybarcodes.com/docs/en/faqs/unlimited-upgrade-shared
Yes, it can!
Your Barcodes Unlimited purchase, of a subscription or in-app purchase, can be shared with your family if you have Family Sharing set up. Family Sharing for in-app purchases is automatically enabled when you have Share Purchases selected in your Family Sharing settings, and subscriptions can be chosen to share or not share.
Family Sharing can take up to a day or in rare cases longer for Apple to sync your purchases. If you can't restore the purchase on a family member's device, please wait a few hours and try again, and then contact support via email in the app if it's still not available!
## Setting up Family Sharing for in-app purchases
To share your Barcodes Unlimited purchase with family members, ensure Family Sharing is configured correctly on both the purchaser's and family member's devices.
Once purchased, your family member just needs to go to the upgrade screen and then tap Restore Purchases! Note you may need to scroll to see the button.
## Sharing your subscription
You can share your Barcodes Unlimited subscription with family members.
1. Go to Settings > Family > Subscriptions > Manage Subscriptions.
2. Do either of the following:
* *Share all new subscriptions*: Turn on Share with Family. When you purchase a new subscription that’s eligible for sharing, it’s shared with your Family Sharing members by default.
* *Change the settings of a specific subscription*: Tap a subscription, then turn Share with Family on or off.
If you can't find your family's shared apps and content, [Apple's support article](https://support.apple.com/en-us/108911) provides detailed troubleshooting steps.

# Why can’t I use the photo of my card as the displayed image?
Source: https://support.trybarcodes.com/docs/en/faqs/why-can-t-use
Learn about why the brand logos need specific formatting.
The brand logos need specific formatting to work with Widget, Apple Watch and Apple Wallet. It’s not possible for the app to format a photo or image selected from your library to the correct format.
Instead, you can [use the form here](https://requests.barcodes.download) or send an email from within the app to request logos, and typical turn around time is within 72 hours! No brand is too small or too local, as long as they have a website that is all that is required.
There are over 6000 logos available in app, and over 5000 of those have been requested since the feature launched in early 2024. So please don’t hesitate to [request a logo](https://tally.so/r/mOz7p7) if a card you use is missing!

### Scan cards with camera
The camera scanner is perfect for quickly capturing barcodes and QR codes from your cards.
1. Tap the camera icon to open the barcode scanner
2. Position your card so the barcode or QR code is clearly visible in the viewfinder
3. Make sure to align the barcode within the scanning area - the barcode should be parallel to the guide lines
4. Hold the phone steady until the scanner recognizes the code
5. Once scanned successfully, you can review and edit the card details
Tips for successful scanning:
* Ensure good lighting conditions
* Keep the camera steady and at the right distance - not too close or too far
* Clean your camera lens for better scanning accuracy
* For damaged or faded barcodes, try using the document scanner instead, or taking a photo and then importing from that.
### Scan cards with document scanner
The document scanner is a great way to scan and save your physical cards. The scanned image will be saved with your card details.
1. Open the document scanner by tapping the scanner icon
2. Position your card within the scanner frame. Make sure the barcode is clearly visible.
3. The scanner will automatically detect the card edges and capture the image
4. Review the scanned image - you can retake if needed
5. Your scanned card will be saved and you can then edit the card details
The document scanner provides high-quality scans that are perfect for saving your physical cards digitally.
### Add card details manually
Finally, you can add card details manually.
1. Tap the plus button and choose "Add manually"
2. Enter your card details like name, card number, and any additional information
3. Select the correct barcode format for your card (e.g. EAN-13, Code 128, QR Code)
4. Enter the barcode number exactly as it appears on your physical card
5. Add any additional details like expiry date or member ID
Note: It's important to select the correct barcode format - this information is usually printed near the barcode on your physical card. Using the wrong format may result in the barcode not scanning properly.
Common barcode formats include:
* EAN-13: Common for retail products and loyalty cards
* Code 128: Used for logistics and many membership cards
* QR Code: Square barcodes that can contain more information
* Code 39: Often used for identification cards

# How can I sort my cards?
Source: https://support.trybarcodes.com/docs/en/getting-started/sort-cards
Learn how to sort your loyalty cards by most used, recently used, alphabetical order, and more
Barcodes lets you sort your cards in a few different ways so you can find what you need quickly.
## Sorting your cards
From the main card grid screen, tap the sorting icon (side-by-side arrows pointing up and down) in the top right corner.
This opens a menu with the following sort options:
* **Alphabetical** — cards ordered A to Z by name
* **Date Added** — your newest cards at the top, oldest at the bottom
* **Recently Used** — cards you used most recently appear first
* **Most Used** — your most frequently used cards rise to the top over time
* **Custom** — drag and drop to arrange cards in your own order
## Most Used and Recently Used
The "Most Used" and "Recently Used" options track your card usage automatically. The more often you open a card, the higher it'll rank in "Most Used" order. "Recently Used" simply shows you the card you last opened, regardless of how often you use it.
These are useful if you want your most important cards at the top without manually arranging them — Barcodes learns what you use and surfaces it for you.
## Custom order
If you prefer to arrange cards exactly how you like, select "Custom" and drag cards into your preferred order. You can also reorder folders in the same way.
Custom order is maintained separately from the other sort options — switching back to "Most Used" or "Recently Used" will ignore your manual arrangement.
## Sorting on Apple Watch
Sorting options are also available on Apple Watch. Swipe to the right from the card list to open Settings, then tap Sorting. The same options are available there as on iPhone.

Learn how to import and export your data.
## Exporting your data
To export your data, go to Settings > Advanced. To export **all** your data so it can be imported, follow these steps.
1. Select “Export full backup”
1. Select “Save to files”, or choose where to send or store the backup zip folder
Now you’ve got a full back up you can use to import all your cards to someone else’s device, or to restore from if needed.
## Importing your data
To import your data from a backup, go to Settings > Advanced and follow these steps:
1. Select "Import backup"
2. Choose the backup zip file you want to import from your files
3. Confirm the import when prompted
Your data will then be restored from the backup file.
Note: Importing will not delete or overwrite your existing data - it will add the imported data alongside what you already have.
Tip: If you’re looking to keep cards in sync, instead of exporting and importing you can instead share over iCloud!

# Sharing over iCloud
Source: https://support.trybarcodes.com/docs/en/sharing-data/sharing-over-icloud
How to share cards with family or friends over iCloud, and keep them in sync automatically
You can share a folder to keep an entire collection of cards in sync with friends or family.
This will then work like a shared iCloud folder in Notes, where if you allow whoever you share with to edit, you can both make changes or add cards and they will stay in sync.
Folders and iCloud sharing requires Barcodes Unlimited
1. Add a folder from the plus button in the top corner
2. Hold down on a card to drag into a folder, or tap “Move to Folder”
3. Hold down on a folder and tap to Share Folder, and then invite family or friends. You can edit the Share Options to control access, and whether those you invite can edit or only view cards.
That’s it! You’re all set. Now you can add cards to the shared folder and they will stay in sync across everyone’s separate accounts and devices.

How to share your anonymous account identifier with the developer for support with purchases issues
Barcodes processes and handles in-app purchases from Apple. If you need support with a purchase, you will need to share the anonymous identifier identifying your account purchases on Barcodes.
You can share this identifier by tapping on the Support heading in Settings in Barcodes three times. You can also hide it again the same way.
Tap the identifier to copy it to your clipboard, and then tap the contact details to email for support, and paste it into the email!

Learn how to report bugs so I can fix them as soon as possible
If you’ve found a bug or an issue with the app, please use the contact details in app to email me with details! Using the in app contact button will also attach your logs, which can be the most helpful information to try and find a fix.
For the best chance of finding a fix, clear steps of what you did, as well as what did/didn’t happen is super helpful.
For example:
**Steps to reproduce**
* Tapped on “Contact Developer”
* Entered email text
* Left the app to check something
* Returned and email content had reset
**Expected**
* Email draft is kept when leaving and returning to the app
Screenshots are also always helpful to point out exactly what’s not working!

# Why aren’t my cards appearing on my Apple Watch?
Source: https://support.trybarcodes.com/docs/en/troubleshooting/why-aren-t-cards
Learn how to fix Apple Watch sync problems
If you have just installed Barcodes on a new Apple Watch, your cards may not appear right away. Cards sync over iCloud, and the first sync can take a while - sometimes a few hours, especially the first time you install the app or set up a new watch.
## Check the iCloud sync status in Barcodes
1. Open Barcodes on your Apple Watch.
2. Swipe to the right from the main screen to open Settings.
3. Scroll down until you see `iCloud sync status`.
4. If it says `Succeeded`, the watch can reach iCloud and your cards should appear once syncing finishes.
5. If it says `Account not available`, or you see an iCloud sync error, continue with the steps below.
## Check Apple Account on the watch itself
The most common cause is that the watch has been signed out of iCloud, or Apple needs you to complete an account sign-in step again.
1. On your Apple Watch, open the system `Settings` app - not Barcodes.
2. Tap your Apple Account at the top.
3. If you see `Update Apple Account Settings`, open it and follow the prompts.
4. Sign back in if the watch asks you to.
5. Return to Barcodes and check `iCloud sync status` again.
Barcodes uses the same iCloud account as your Apple Watch. It cannot sign in to iCloud separately inside the app.
## Check iPhone iCloud settings too
1. Open the `Settings` app on your iPhone.
2. Tap your name at the top.
3. Tap `iCloud`.
4. Under `Saved to iCloud`, tap `See All`.
5. Confirm that Barcodes is listed and enabled.
## Common causes
These sync issues usually happen because:
* iCloud is still finishing the first sync to a new watch
* the Apple Watch has been logged out of iCloud or needs account verification
* Barcodes has been disabled in iPhone iCloud settings
## Still having issues?
If the watch is signed in correctly, Barcodes is enabled in iCloud on your iPhone, and the cards still do not appear after waiting a while, contact me through the support details in the app and I can look into it further.
If you want to check the basic setup steps too, see [How do I use my loyalty cards and reward cards on my Apple Watch?](/docs/en/apple-watch/loyalty-cards-apple-watch).
# Why did my cards disappear?
Source: https://support.trybarcodes.com/docs/en/troubleshooting/why-did-my-cards-disappear
Barcodes needs iCloud access to keep your cards in sync
If your cards seem to have disappeared, the most common cause is that Barcodes no longer has access to your iCloud account.
Barcodes stores and syncs your cards through iCloud. If iCloud access is turned off for Barcodes, or if your device is signed out of iCloud, your cards can disappear from the app until that access is restored.
In most cases, your cards are not gone permanently. Once iCloud is available again, they should reappear automatically.
## Check iCloud access for Barcodes on your iPhone
1. Open the `Settings` app on your iPhone.
2. Tap your name at the top.
3. Tap `iCloud`.
4. Under `Saved to iCloud`, tap `See All`.
5. Confirm that Barcodes is listed and enabled.
If Barcodes was turned off here, turn it back on and wait a moment for iCloud to sync again.
## Check that you are still signed in to iCloud
If you have signed out of iCloud on your iPhone, or if Apple is asking you to sign in again, Barcodes will not be able to access your synced cards.
1. Open the `Settings` app on your iPhone.
2. Tap your name at the top.
3. If you are asked to sign in, sign back in with the same iCloud account you used before.
4. If you see any Apple Account warning or prompt to continue setup, complete it.
5. Open Barcodes again and give it a little time to reconnect.
If you sign back in with the same iCloud account, your cards should usually reappear once iCloud finishes syncing.
## Why this happens
This usually happens because:
* Barcodes was disabled in `Settings` > your name > `iCloud`
* the device was signed out of iCloud
* Apple needs you to complete an account sign-in or verification step again
## Still missing?
If iCloud is enabled for Barcodes, you are signed back in to the correct iCloud account, and the cards still do not come back after waiting a while, contact me through the support details in the app and I can help investigate further.
# Widgets aren’t displaying logos
Source: https://support.trybarcodes.com/docs/en/troubleshooting/widgets-aren-t-displaying
Try and restart your device, or wait a few hours, or both
Are your Home Screen widgets not displaying logos? The widget does display logos, so if they’re not showing up this isn’t working right.
This can happen for a couple of reasons:
* the logo was just updated, and the sync from the iOS app to the widget hasn’t completed
* the widget has been unable to access the card / brand details
The most reliable fix is to **restart your device**, and this usually works, but sometimes it also just requires **waiting a couple of hours**. This nearly always resolves itself after a few hours.
The widgets can be a little tricky, and the communication with the main app can get stuck. If this happens, there is no way for the iOS app to then send a message of any kind or update, so the only solution is to try and restart your device. This then forces the widget to restart, and usually fixes the communication with the app.
This has been reported quite frequently, and I’m still looking into longer term improvements (one day I’ll hopefully be able to delete this page!)
