The Barcodes Apple Watch app now needs watchOS 10 or later. If your Apple Watch can’t update to watchOS 10, then unfortunately the latest version can’t be installed on it. To see which watchOS versions your Apple Watch supports, see Apple’s Apple Watch and iPhone compatibility page.

Why did support end?

To support the newest iPhones, Apple Watches and iOS features, Barcodes needs to be built with Apple’s latest Xcode. Xcode 27 can’t build apps for watchOS 8 at all. Barcodes kept watchOS 8 support for as long as possible, restoring it back in 2024 after previously dropping it once. Unfortunately now I can’t keep the app up to date and working with newer devices while still support versions before watchOS 10.

Can I get an older version?

No. The App Store only offers the latest version, and I can’t provide older versions or IPA files.

What still works

  • Apple Wallet: Add a card to Apple Wallet from the iPhone app. Wallet passes on your iPhone also show on your paired Apple Watch, including older models. Turn on Maximise Apple Watch support so barcodes other than QR, PDF417 and Aztec show too. See How do I add cards to Apple Wallet? and Apple Wallet pass types.
  • Your purchase: Lifetime and Unlimited purchases aren’t affected. If you get a newer watch later, the watch app works on it at no extra cost.
  • Your cards: Everything stays in iCloud and keeps working on your iPhone and in widgets.
